DAM Network/Map

De Andere Markt (DAM) is a project initiated in 2015 by researchers of LUCA School of Arts and the University of Hasselt, with support from the City of Genk and the European Union through the FP7 framework project TRADERS. Based on a shop front in the neighbourhood of Winterslag, DAM has worked on several projects to think, talk and prototype alternative work futures for the city of Genk. Even if the physical location has served as an important asset and a homebase to connect with different organizations and actors of the city, the most important resource of the project is the network we have built.

This website presents different networks started in the city of Genk (and later expanded to cities like Hasselt, Leuven and Mechelen) that gave birth to different projects and initiatives. It is possible to see the ‘map view’, wherein the different spaces and their information can be consulted; and it is also possible to have a ‘network view’, wherein the networks of actors, tools and spaces are visualized and structured through the different projects.

This website should therefore be seen as a tool for all Genkenaren to consult on past and present projects and initiatives, but also to actively use by adding new data. In this way, even if it starts from the network and projects realised in the context of DAM, it will expand to all activities in the city. You can explore the geographical map, with all the spaces in the city and surroundings, as well as the network map, where you can filter by projects and connect with its members.

Geo map

Here you can explore all the spaces and their geographical location. Move through the map and click on the markers to see the information of a space.

Network map

Here you can explore the actors, tools and spaces and, more specially, the relations between them. It is composed by the left sidebar that contains the list of projects and link to their networks, the central space where the network is visualized and the right sidebar which shows the information of any of the desired nodes or projects.

Once you access the map through the main/top menu, you can click on one of the projects on the left bar to see its network of relations. In the right bar you will see the information of the project, with its respective links. In the network view, you can click in any of the actors, tools or spaces to see their description and information on the right sidebar. In the right sidebar you will find the name of the node, their description, relevant links (website, e-mail, twitter, facebook), a link to show the direct connections of that node (show XXX network) and the other projects it is linked to.
