Project - Pieter Thijs
Description
Beverlo longs for a village center renewal project. On the basis of mixed
development around the school and church in Beverlo, place is made for
effervescent public space on the scale of a pleasant village.
At the moment an inaccessible open green area manifests around the school.
Because of the important roles the school and the church carry in a village this
becomes a strategic place to densify. The densification focuses on different
functions such as offices, catering industry and dwellings in various typologies.
Furthermore, room is being made for a safe car-free bicycle connection
between the residential area in the south and the village center. This is possible
by clustering parking zones at the edge of the plot.
The program of the new residential area is resolved as a landscape that forms
a coherent whole, where the homes exude individuality.
The formed structure indicates different public spaces with their own character
where meeting plays an important role. Each public space focuses on a
different quality, for example sports, productivity, recreation & relaxation...
This ensures a different experience of the place each time and brings
dynamism to the village center.
