PreAftermath by Zhengyi Wang

Description

Sound arrives before you know what it carries.

Like gravitational waves, it does not travel through space—

it is space, contracting and stretching as it passes.

What reaches you is not a signal from somewhere.

It is the shape of everything it has moved through.

You are not outside this field.

To be here is to become a surface.

The wave curves around you, and you curve it back.

Something is altered on both sides.

What you hear is already aftermath.

What you leave behind is already beginning.
