Ringdown explores the human impulse to understand what cannot be seen directly through the traces it leaves behind. Black holes never reveal themselves in full, yet the gravitational waves that remain after their merger become evidence of their existence. All the sounds in the work are constructed only using the sonified observational data, translating measured information into sensory experience. Its cyclical 7/8 structure and revolving motion suggest approach, union and the decaying oscillation that follows. The work translates gravitational wave data into music, exploring how distant events become perceptible through listening.
